Use of English Part 1
Task 1 is a multiple-choice cloze test. In this task, candidates are presented with a passage of text with some words missing, and are required to choose the correct word from a list of options to complete the passage. The purpose of this task is to test candidates’ knowledge of vocabulary and language functions in context.
To complete this task successfully, candidates must be able to understand the overall meaning and purpose of the text, as well as the specific role that each missing word plays in the text. This may involve identifying the grammatical function of the missing word (e.g., verb, noun, adjective, etc.), as well as its meaning in relation to the rest of the text.
Candidates should also be aware that the words given as options in the multiple-choice list may not be the only possible answers, and that they may need to use their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary to eliminate options that are not appropriate in the context of the text.
Overall, the multiple-choice cloze test in Task 1 of the Use of English part of the Cambridge C1 Advanced exam is a challenging but important task that requires candidates to demonstrate a high level of language proficiency in order to succeed.
